Why do we do a PDS check?
Each time a user logs in, a PDS check is carried out to ensure their registered GP surgery’s O.D.S. code is up to date within NHS login. This should be helpful if, for example, a user changes GP surgery. The check also makes sure other information is up to date, like GP surgery linkage keys. It also blocks access to any NHS login accounts belonging to users marked as deceased in PDS.
What is OTP in NHS?
The user is asked to provide their email address and a password. A One Time Password (OTP) will be sent by text message to the phone number registered to the user’s NHS login. They must enter this security code to log in.
Can NHS login be used as a one time linkage key?
This feature is intended for use in conjunction with NHS login user authentication, and cannot be used as a one-time linkage key retrieval tool.
Does NHS have age restrictions?
NHS login does not have an age restriction. Users of all ages can set up an NHS login if they pass our I.D. verification checks. However, your service may have its own age restrictions.

What happens if you move practice?
If you move practice, your old practice will close your Patient Access account in their clinical system, however, the account details are still held on the Patient Access website. The account will be restricted, as you are no longer linked to a practice, but you can still access the account and link to your new practice.

You would use this same process if you have been registered as a proxy user for a patient or relative, and already use Patient Access. This process will allow you to link your account to the patient.
Can you delete your patient account at a new practice?
You are now linked to your new practice (or the patient you are caring for) and you'll have access to all enabled services. Alternatively, for patients who have moved practices, Patient Access can send you a delete account email and you can delete your account and re-register from scratch at your new practice.
Why do you need to set up a test patient?
You should set up a test patient so that you can check how your appointments appear to patients in the NHS App. (This feature is not currently available for practices that use the Microtest clinical system.)
